Mechanism of Action:
· Positively charged Polyquaternium-10 effectively adsorbs onto the negatively charged surface of damaged hair (especially in areas where cuticles are lifted due to coloring, perming, or heat exposure).
· Forms a uniform, soft, and non-occlusive protective film on the hair surface.
· Improves both wet and dry combing performance by significantly reducing combing force and preventing breakage.
· Provides a smooth, silky feel without heaviness or greasiness.
· Unlike silicones, it does not cause buildup or residue, making it ideal for long-term use.
Commonly Found In:
· Rinse-off conditioners
· Hair masks
· Leave-in conditioners / hair sprays
· Styling gels and mousses (for soft hold with added smoothness)
· Silicone-free formulations as an ideal alternative conditioning agent
Although less common than in hair care, Polyquaternium-10 can also be used as a functional additive in the following products:
· Thickening agent: Increases viscosity in emulsions and gel systems
· Emulsion stabilizer: Prevents oil-water separation
· Skin feel enhancer: Provides a smooth, lightweight, and non-greasy sensory experience
· Skin conditioner: Enhances moisturization through film-forming properties
Applications include:
· Body washes and facial cleansing foams
· Sunscreens and body lotions
· Baby care products (due to its mildness and skin compatibility)
