  • Q How to choose between alpha arbutin and beta arbutin?

    A Alpha arbutin (α-arbutin) and beta arbutin (β-arbutin) are two common cosmetic whitening ingredients. Although they belong to the arbutin family, they have significant differences in structure, stability, effect and safety. Although both inhibit tyrosinase activity and block melanin production, thereby reducing pigment deposition and achieving whitening and freckle removal effects, alpha arbutin is resistant to high temperatures (no decomposition at 100°C), acid and alkali (stable at pH 5.2-8.0), and has good light stability. It inhibits tyrosinase activity 10-15 times that of the β type. It can be effective at low concentrations (about 1/9 of the β type). At the same time, it is still non-cytotoxic at high concentrations and is suitable for long-term use.

  • Q Why is the price of alpha arbutin lower than that of beta arbutin?

    A Beta-arbutin exists naturally in plants such as bearberry leaves and bilberry. It is cheap and occupies the mainstream market. On the other hand, α-arbutin does not exist in nature and needs to be synthesized artificially. The process is complicated, so its cost has always been higher than that of beta-arbutin. But why is the price of our company's alpha-arbutin lower than that of beta-arbutin?
